Where Every Kid Can Find Their First Try.

Nearly 10,000 L.A. County youth have discovered confidence, teamwork, and belonging through Rugby LA. Here's how our programs make that possible.

Our Services

Youth-first programs and training that expand equitable access to team-based sports for youth across L.A. County and beyond.

Direct Services
Rugby LA is the West Coast’s leading provider of non-contact flag rugby for youth ages 6–18.

Each quarter, our Certified Coaches deliver one-hour clinics and multi-session residencies across after-school programs and city recreation centers throughout Southern California.

Our programs combine play-based learning, fitness, and evidence-aligned positive youth development, where fun matters as much as the fine score.

Rugby LA Residency
Our flagship program introduces the sport of flag rugby—where having fun matters just as much as the final score.

Youth progress from first practice to tournament in under ten weeks, discovering teamwork, confidence, and a new sense of belonging along the way.

  • 6-8 one-hour practices per season
  • Up to 25 youth per group, with multi-group options for different ages
  • Certified Coaches leading Rugby LA’s curriculum blending fitness, skill building, and character development
Rugby LA Tournaments
Tournaments are a cornerstone of Rugby LA’s model—they bring youth together from different neighborhoods for friendly, intramural competition.

Each season culminates with a Saturday tournament among participating partner sites, coordinated and refereed by Rugby LA. We also hold the Annual Fall Classic and Spring Rugby LA Cup, open to all sites, as an opportunity for families to share in this important culmination. All participants receive a jersey, fitness guide and rugby ball at the tournament.

Technical Assistance
Rugby LA supports schools, after-school providers, and youth-serving organizations seeking to introduce flag rugby or strengthen existing sports programming.

As leaders in sport-based youth development, we offer a comprehensive suite of trainings, from introductory workshops to advanced coach preparation.

Coach Certification
Our gold-standard certification prepares coaches to lead flag rugby programs grounded in positive youth development.

This e-learning and in-person course—provides 20 hours of in-depth training on topics below, and must be completed to coach our Direct Services.

  • Coaching and refereeing flag rugby
  • Safety protocols on the pitch
  • Best practices for engaging youth and positive mentorship
Staff Development
Rugby LA delivers customized in-service trainings for school educators, after-school staff, recreation leaders, and peer youth mentors (ages 16–21) who want to integrate flag rugby into year-round programming.

In this one-day training, participants learn the rules of flag rugby, how to coach young athletes using our curriculum, successfully organizing tournaments, and how to use sports to build critical developmental assets in youth.
